My background in floral design began five years ago as the lead designer for weddings and events at Orly Khon Floral, a high-end floral design company and floral boutique proprietor/partner with Restoration Hardware in their Boston-based flagship store. Over the last year, my fiancé and I moved from Somerville, MA to the metro Detroit area to experience first-hand the creative transformation that Detroit is undergoing.
I really enjoy the creative process behind each project. It begins with meeting a client or collaborator and jotting ideas down on paper with the event space and mood in mind. From there, I sketch and pull images to develop the concept into a design. More than focusing on a certain color palette, I like to focus on the mood of the event. I believe if you work with the overall tone and mood at the forefront, the colors will reveal themselves to create a beautiful color story that is completely natural and fluid. All of the planning and design evolves over time to conform to the unpredictability of nature that will almost always veer the creative process onto different avenues. These are the moments that open you up to new experiences and force you to work with the flowers that nature has intended all while referring back to the original concept and mood.
